A/Prof Raj Gunaratne is an Associate Professor affiliated with Curtin university, with a strong commitment to academic orthopaedic surgery, teaching and research. He holds a PhD in the field of robotics and has a particular academic interest in the application of robotics, navigation and innovative surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes.

He is actively involved in clinical research, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications and more than 1000 citations, and regularly supervises research projects with medical students, junior doctors and orthopaedic trainees. His current research focuses on novel fixation techniques, biomechanics, and the safe implementation of new surgical technologies.

A/Prof Gunaratne is passionate about medical education and has extensive experience teaching across multiple levels, including medical students, junior doctors, orthopaedic trainees, GPs and allied health professionals. He is regularly involved in exam preparation, curriculum development and clinical skills training, and has been formally recognised for excellence in teaching..
